Shake Colonial Home

Our clients approached us with a vision: a home spacious enough to host their large family year-round, yet designed to feel timeless, cozy, and classic. Working with the existing foundation of a split-level house, we reimagined the structure into a traditional home that bears little resemblance to its predecessor. To soften the scale and enhance curb appeal, the central roofline sweeps down to form a welcoming front porch, while charming doghouse dormers cleverly conceal the children’s bedrooms. A material palette of white clapboard siding, (faux) shake roofing, and copper accents reinforces the home’s enduring character. While the front elevation emphasizes warmth and approachability, the rear of the home is designed for entertaining and enjoying the outdoors. A ground-level patio encourages seamless flow onto the lawn for larger gatherings, while a covered space—aligned with the main living level—offers a cozy retreat complete with a fireplace for year-round comfort.
