New construction in place of existing house. Faced with redrawn flood maps, new beach houses needed to be lifted a full story above ground, keeping the living and mechanical spaces above flood levels. To avoid an awkwardly looming tall house, the ground level was softened and the mass of the home – strategically broken up, manipulating the perception of scale to bring the shore house into harmony with its surroundings.
